The goal of these works was to create meaningful music that was adaptable. It began with my continuing research on improvisation and universal notation. It was slow going and took about two years of work to get the vision for these works.
The catalyst came from a concert I was doing in Istanbul for prepared guitar and electronics. Once I hit the stage the work that I had prepared seemed to be inappropriate for that moment in time. It was a strange feeling and I did quickly change the work that I performed. After the concert, I decided to finish my research with a series of works that were fully adaptable; they could be played by anyone regardless of ability, they could be adapted for different instrumentations and could be played in such a manner as to compositionally adapt to different performance environments. The works are still compositions though, retaining certain characteristic elements.
Once the writing started the works came quickly and were all finished within six months. I would like to thank Robert Riegle, who started my process of doing my research and writing the first time I saw him play.
